Mark Casper, a former Marine, had lost touch with the veteran community until December 17, 2015.
Then he walked into Tech for Troops.
“I was asked by the Founder to come in, visit Tech for Troops and see if I wanted to be on the Board. Absolutely, I will do that – it’s veterans I want to help out; it’s my brothers and sisters. And when I walked in the door God smacked me upside the head and said, “You’re home.””
The Spotlight
It has been a hard a winding road since that day almost five years ago, but Mark's passion for the mission is evident.
Tech for Troops helps veterans who have fallen on hard times. Without a computer, you can accomplish little these days, especially in the midst of a pandemic. Tech for Troops gifts refurbished donated laptops to veterans in need and trains them to arm them with computer skills to be effective.
Some localities have staggering statistics. In Los Angeles, 13% of the estimated 55,000 homeless are thought to be veterans. Tech for Troops reaches nationwide.
Marshall is one such veteran. On the verge of suicide and mired in total hopelessness. Tech for Troops was able to provide Marshall a computer, skills and hope. And...introductions to employers. Marshall lost his first job to the pandemic, but found another with their help and is on the verge of a six figure income.
Having a computer can make all of the difference.
And sponsors like Altria, Carmax, and Dominion are stepping up in support.
Hack for Troops is coming up on November 14th - a 24 hour online contest you need to check out. Contestants are coming the world over.
